What weight loss supplements should I take?

womanThat’s the most common question that anybody selling supplements is asked.  People want the miracle pill, the one that’s going to make them lose 20 pounds in a week.  Well, I’m here to set the record straight:  Ain’t gonna happen.  You’re not going to take some pill twice a day and lose weight while maintaining an unhealthy lifestyle.

What ’some pill’ can do is accelerate your metabolism and help you burn fat, supply your body with critical nutrients, and overall give you a helping hand to fight against your waistline.   But that’s all pills like Lipo-6, Thermonex, and MHP’s Dren do — help.  They don’t take the remote out of your hands every night — they don’t make you choose the salad over the french fries — and they certainly don’t drive you to the gym.

If you’re ready to get serious about weight loss and want to use weight loss supplements along your journey — great.  Along with one or more of the above supplements mentioned, you should also consider taking the following (after talking with your doctor, of course):

Good multi-vitamin. If you’re on a diet, you’re probably leaving some types of food out of your diet.  They should be “bad” types of food, but they still may have vitamins and minerals that your body needs.  By eliminating these from your diet, you’re not allowing your body to receive these nutrients — which is bad for the normal functioning of your body.

Fish oil. Product’s like Optimum Nutrition’s Fish Oil and Twinlab’s Fish/Flax Oil Blend are in this category.  You might have witnessed some of the media buzz around fish oil — it probably deserves it.  Fish oil contains some essential fatty acids that our body uses to function.  Studies have demonstrated that fish oil helps control insulin and sugar levels, which helps optimize ourbodies fat-burning elements.

Green tea. You can get green tea from your neighborhood gas station, most places sell them in the form of a drink these days. NOW Green tea extract is also cheap, yet effective source of green tea extract that comes in pill form.  Green tea is very healthy for you as it has very little caffeine with no calories, in addition to fat-burning micronutrients that helps your body shed the pounds.

Again, there is very little debate over whether supplements work or not.  Most of them do.  The bad press and negative word of mouth is derived from people who expect supplements to do everything for them.  You’ll hear that “supplements don’t work” from the same people that ask:  “Why didn’t I lose any weight this week?  I only ate fast food three nights this week and went to the gym twice!”

Eat healthy, workout a few times a week, and take some supplements.  You’ll lose weight.
