Study finds CLA reduces body fat

A study published within this decade in December 2000 involving a double-blind, randomized placebo performed by the Journal of Nutrition discovered that CLA lowers levels of fat and preserves muscle tissue.
According to the research project manager involved with the study, the typical reduction of approximately six pounds of body fat was experienced by the group of test subjects that took CLA, as opposed to the placebo group.
According to the study, approximately 3.4 grams of CLA per day is needed to obtain the effects that start to bring some reduction in body fat. A doctor who performed research on CLA for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Michael Pariza, reported that “It doesn’t make a big fat cell get little. What it rather does is keep a little fat cell from getting big.”
Additionally, Dr. Pariza’s research indicated that while he was studying 71 overweight people and their effects while on CLA, he did not find weight loss — but instead found that those that stopped dieting and gained weight once again, they were much more likely to gain muscle and not fat.
A second study at Purdue showed that CLA improved levels of insulin in about 2/3 of diabetics that took the supplement.
